Club remembers Liam Drummond

Liam first started playing powerchair football in 2015 and was the inspiration behind the forming of the Wessex Warriors PFC.

He had always been very sporty and excelled at a number of sports including table cricket and boccia and when he started playing powerchair football it was clear that he was a natural.

Liam went from strength to strength with his technical ability and was the obvious choice to captain the team when they started playing in September, he not only showed a fantastic ability to play the sport but also to lead the team.

When Wessex Warriors merged with the AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust Liam was delighted, mostly as he would be able to say he was an AFC Bournemouth player. He couldn’t wait to represent the club and one of his best moments was being able to put on the shirt in the home changing room to do the press release for the AFC Bournemouth Warriors.

Since this point Liam continued to strive forward and, despite being diagnosed with pneumonia in the early part of the season, led the team to victories in not only the league but also the WFA Cup where he scored to put the team in the lead.

Liam has been a season ticket holder at AFC Bournemouth for many years and was delighted to see them promoted to the Premier League, he relished the opportunity to see them play against other top-flight clubs, particularly the other team he followed, Chelsea.

Liam’s passion for the sport and his desire to be the best was second to none and he encouraged other players to do the same, becoming a role model for players young and old. He was a huge part of AFC Bournemouth Warriors and will be terribly missed by everyone.

Liam had made many friends through football, including players, coaches and families from other teams and it was a very important part of his life. Our thoughts go out to Liam’s friends and family at this sad time.
