AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Artur Boruc has signed a new one-year contract.

The 38-year-old former Poland international, who has been at Vitality Stadium since September 2014, has put pen to paper on fresh terms which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2019.

Boruc, who can count Celtic and Fiorentina among his former clubs, initially joined the Cherries on loan from Southampton before making the switch permanent ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

To date he has made 112 appearances for AFC Bournemouth, keeping 34 clean sheets, and holds the record of being Poland’s highest-capped goalkeeper, with 65 senior outings for his country.

"I’m very pleased and happy to stay here for another year,” said Boruc.

"It is never easy to watch the team playing when you are not involved but I am fighting every day for the number one spot and whenever the manager gives me a chance, I give it 100 per cent.

"I am also trying to help our young goalkeepers who are at the start of their careers, which is very important to me.

"I am settled here, I love this club and my family love it here too. I believe I still have a part to play and that is why I signed a new deal."

AFC Bournemouth manager, Eddie Howe, said: "Artur fully deserves his new contract.

"He has been a key player for us behind the scenes this year, forming a great team of senior goalkeepers with Asmir Begovic and Adam Federici, while also inspiring the younger goalkeepers in the club.

"This is the best I have seen him train since he has been with us, which is a huge compliment considering he hasn’t been playing regularly.

"He has great ability, still has the hunger to play and would be ready for action whenever called upon."

AFC Bournemouth chief executive, Neill Blake, added: "Artur has been a fantastic servant to the club over the last four years.

"As well as being an outstanding goalkeeper who still has plenty to offer at the highest level, he is a brilliant professional whose attitude and application every day is exceptional.

"We are proud to have him at the club and he is a credit to AFC Bournemouth."
