During the half-term school holiday, AFC Bournemouth welcomed age groups from Plymouth Argyle and Northampton Town to Bournemouth School for Girls for the season’s second round of elite fixtures, involving all of AFC Bournemouth's girls teams.
During the half-term school holiday, AFC Bournemouth welcomed age groups from Plymouth Argyle and Northampton Town to Bournemouth School for Girls for the season’s second round of elite fixtures, involving all of AFC Bournemouth's girls teams.
The AFC Bournemouth under-10 squad, who were playing in their second year of elite girls fixtures, started the day brightly. They played some excellent football, in what was a thriller of a game against their counterparts from Plymouth Argyle.
Their second and final game of the day, was a much tougher and physical battle, where they displayed some excellent resilience.
The under-12 squad, much like the under-10’s, played some excellent football and, although narrowly losing 3-2 to Plymouth Argyle in a very even game, they bounced back from disappointment to comfortably beat a competitive Northampton Town side 4-0.
The squad really embodied the AFC Bournemouth philosophy by showing excellent determination to come back from their first fixture with such a strong response. The girls finished second in the group.
The under-14 squad followed the pattern by winning one and losing the other of their two fixtures. The first game against Plymouth Argyle was very even and the quality on show from both teams was consistently high, however the ability of the Devon based team to finish their chances more clinically led to a 3-1 defeat.
The lessons were learnt for the second fixture as Northampton were beaten 2-0 after two early goals and some excellent team shape, which prevented them from getting back in the game. Once again, the girls finished second in the group.
In the oldest age group, our under-16s started well in their first fixture by taking a 2-0 lead early into the game. However, after some lapses in concentration, Plymouth Argyle grew back into the match and were suddenly back to 2-2 to spoil what would have been an excellent result.
Similar to the response of the uner-12 and under-14 squads the girls bounced back emphatically in their final fixture to beat Northampton Town 7-0 after a dominant performance. This side finished top of the group, with a superior goal difference over Plymouth Argyle.
The final league standings for the day saw us narrowly miss out on top spot to Plymouth Argyle by one point. We would like to congratulate them on their win and wish them all the best for the season.

All four age groups return to league action this weekend in the Winchester and District Girls League.
