Vitality Stadium played host to the Celebrating Diversity Conference for young disabled people in Bournemouth last week.

Run in conjunction with B-Town Youth and Bournemouth Council, the occasion provided a chance for those in attendance to see what opportunities were available to them.

Various stalls provided different insights, with AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust highlighting their sessions, Wessex Warriors advertising their Powerchair Football and the likes of Diverse Abilities and Dorset Advocacy also having stands.

Additionally, a short film produced by B-Town Youth was shown to those in attendance. It featured Jordan Hussain, a young person living with a disability, who has helped raise awareness of the opportunities offered by AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust through his own video, which can be viewed here

AFC Bournemouth’s Head of Community Steve Cuss spoke of the event’s success.

“We were delighted to host the Celebrating Diversity Conference at the Vitality Stadium,” he told afcb.co.uk.

“It was a chance to showcase the opportunities available for people in the Bournemouth area with a disability and the day proved to be a big success.

Disability and Inclusion Officer Hannah Powis also spoke of her delight after the occasion brought several partners and participants together.

“The event was a fantastic opportunity to bring together services in the area who offer opportunities for young disabled people and put them in touch with those who could become involved,” she explained.

“The young people invited to attend the day received a tour of the stadium and a chance to win a pair of signed football boots when they had gone around and spoken to each of the stallholders.

“All the young people in attendance left the day with valuable information about a service within the area they were interested in.”
