Cherries in Sunday loss to Saints

AFC Bournemouth Women's team fell to a 3-1 loss away at Southampton on Sunday, the Cherries' first league defeat of the season.

Hosts Southampton took the lead in the match but the Cherries levelled before the break.

Meg Vella was the goalscorer as she cut inside from the wing, was involved in a good combination of passing before beating the 'keeper at the near post.

Rosie Eden also had a good chance before half time, blasting at the 'keeper as the sides went in tied at 1-1.

In dreadful weather Southampton broke after the interval scoring to regain the lead and the scoreline became 3-1 before the end.

The Cherries are now third in the Southern Region Women's Premier League.

After the game, manager Steve Davies spoke to afcb.co.uk and said: "The players gave everything in the match and worked to really hard."
