AFC Bournemouth Women made it five wins out of five in the league on Sunday, with a 3-0 victory over Newbury Ladies.

Goals from Katie Grall, Rosie Eden and Hannah Bennett secured the three points, as Steve Davies’ side moved into top spot in the Southern Region Women’s Premier League.

The Cherries were made to wait for their opening goal of the afternoon, with the breakthrough not coming until the 40th minute.

Grall opened her account for the club to put AFC Bournemouth a goal up, with Eden’s perfect cut-back being put away.

In the second half, the visitors had to be patient and it wasn’t until the 78th minute that Eden doubled the lead.

The striker ran onto a Davis header, beat the Newbury defender and slotted home past the ‘keeper with ease.

There was almost a third ten minutes later, as Jade Hockey set up Emily Phillips, who saw her effort hit the bar.

And with minutes remaining, Bennett completed the scoring after the hosts had handled Davis’ ball in the area, the referee consequently pointing to the spot for a penalty.

Following the win, manager Davies spoke with afcb.co.uk.

“We are pleased with the result and performance, particularly the number of chances created and the clean sheet.”
