AFC Bournemouth Women were defeated 8-1 in their FA Cup first round fixture against Keynsham Town Ladies.

The hosts, who are top of the Division One South West of the Women’s National League, had Jade Radburn and Justine Lorton to thank for their braces, while Jade Hockey scored a consolation for Steve Davies’ side.

The Cherries had much to be proud of, however, having reached the opening round for the first time in their history.

The side had won their three preliminary fixtures, scoring 25 goals in the process, as Basingstoke Ladies, Portishead Town Ladies and Newhaven Ladies were all brushed aside.

After the cup run came to an end on Sunday, manager Davies shared his pride with afcb.co.uk.

“We are delighted to have reached the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to getting back into action next weekend.”
