AFC Bournemouth Women defeated Down Grange Ladies 12-0 on the weekend to progress in the Hampshire FA Women’s Challenge Cup.

A hat-trick from Maisy Smith, braces from Emma Davis and Rosie Eden, as well as individual strikes from Jade Hockey, Terri Harvey, Sian Tilly and Hannah Bennett all helped seal the win.

The Women now maintain their unbeaten start to the season, which now stretches to seven games.

The Cherries started brightly, creating numerous chances from the off and soon finding the net just 12 minutes in through Hockey.

Just before the half-hour mark, Steve Davies’ side had their best spell of the game, netting a remarkable five times in seven minutes.

Eden bagged two, Smith and Davis grabbed their first goals of the afternoon and Harvey also got in on the act.

With the Cherries going into the break 6-0 up, they continued where they left off as play resumed.

Smith’s second was backed up with an own goal to soon lift the visitors’ tally to eight.

The striker then grabbed her hat-trick with just under 20 minutes remaining, after her initial shot was parried back into her path, before finishing coolly.

Moments later and the Cherries had a ninth, Tilly heading home from an Eden corner.

There was still time for a lovely team move, which culminated with a delightful backheel from Smith to tee up Bennett for her first of the afternoon, before Davis completed the scoring with a nice finish.

Following the game, a delighted Davies spoke with afcb.co.uk.

“It was a very professional performance,” he began.

“We’re really pleased to go through and we’re looking forward to the next round.”

AFC Bournemouth Women will face Southampton Saints away from home in the second round, with details to be announced in due course.
