AFC Bournemouth were defeated 8-1 in the weekend’s pre-season friendly against Super League side Chelsea Women.

A great test for the Cherries, which was played at the Blues’ Cobham Training Ground, saw Katie Kingshott grab the only goal for the visitors.

Steve Davies’ side have now played five pre-season friendlies, with one more to go before the Cherries’ competitive fixtures get back underway again.

The Women will kick-off with a FA Cup qualifier against Basingstoke, before the league campaign gets underway with a trip to Ascot United Ladies the following week.

And manager Davies believes that the Cherries have learned plenty from the weekend trip to Chelsea.

“We’ve got loads from pre-season so far,” he began.

“The games we’ve played were intentionally challenging and if we can cut out some small mistakes, we’re going to look a really solid team.

“It was a great experience to play at Cobham and it showed the players the level that we want to be at.

“We’ve got a very hard working group of players and we’re all looking forward to the start of the season.”
