AFC Bournemouth Women progressed in the Chairman’s Cup with a 1-0 win over Ascot United Ladies at the Racecourse Ground.
Katie Kingshott scored the only goal of the game just after the break, as the Cherries saw out the win and progressed to the next round, with England striker Fran Kirby in attendance at the game.
The visitors started well, with Jade Hockey putting her shot over the bar in the first half.
It was then up to Katie Scadding to save smartly from an Ascot strike, before Rosie Eden failed to make the most of her chances in what would’ve given Steve Davies’ side the lead.
After the break, the deadlock was finally broken.
Jade Hockey cut inside on the left, before playing it across to Kingshott, who hit it straight into the corner to give the Cherries the lead.
The visitors kept the Ascot ‘keeper busy throughout the half and hung on to progress to the next round, clearing a dangerous corner in the last minute.
Following the game, manager Davies spoke with afcb.co.uk.
“I’m really pleased to get through in the cup,” he began.
“It sets us up nicely for a string of league games coming up.”
