AFC Bournemouth Women maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 4-0 win over Warsash Wasps.
A double from Meg Vella, as well as strikes from Chloe Tape and Hannah Bennett saw the Cherries come away with all three points, as Steve Davies’ side now sit top of the Southern Region Women’s Premier League.
The hosts started strongly and dominated from the early stages, with plenty of attacking play in the opening quarter of the game.
And it wasn’t long before the Cherries’ persistence paid off, as Sian Tilly played in Vella, who finished well across the ‘keeper 18 minutes in.
With Davies’ side continuing to apply the pressure, Vella grabbed her second of the game to double the lead just before the break. A quick throw in from Rosie Eden caught out the Warsash defence, as Vella slipped in to finish coolly inside the area.
After the interval, the Cherries started strongly and their third was to come just five minutes in. This time, Eden beat her player on the right before pulling it back to Tape, who finished neatly to add to Warsash’s woes.
And Davies’ side continued to get the better of their opposition, with the visitors picking up bookings in quick succession, before Eden was brought down in a dangerous position on the left 57 minutes in.
From the resulting set-piece, Bennett converted superbly, lobbing the Warsash ‘keeper in the process to give her side a four-goal cushion.
The Cherries remained in control for the final half-an-hour, with ‘keeper Kate Guthrie only called into action due to a couple of long-range shots from the visitors.
Following the game, manager Steve Davies spoke to afcb.co.uk about the well-deserved three points.
“I’m really pleased with the performance,” he said.
“Our players were really professional and played some excellent football.”
