AFC Bournemouth recorded another win to kick-start 2018, beating Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 away from home.

Terri Harvey and Chloe Tape were on target for the Cherries, who came from a goal down to snatch victory in the Jubilee Cup clash.

On a difficult pitch, Steve Davies’ side did well to cope with early pressure from the hosts, after long balls forward were confidently cleared by the Cherries defence.

Up the other end of the pitch, the best chance of the first half fell to Rosie Eden, whose first-time shot from Emma Davis’ cross went over the Wycombe bar.

Prior to the break, Jade Hockey saw her effort saved well by Blues ‘keeper Amy Batkin, before the hosts picked up their first yellow card of the game through Bonnie Messit, who was booked for a late foul on Cherries captain Sian Tilly.

However, after the interval, it was Wycombe who eventually struck first. A mishit goal-kick was pounced upon by a Blues striker, who controlled it well and score a one-on-one against Cherries goalkeeper Kate Guthrie.

With the visitors looking for a way back into the game, Davies’ side went up a gear and soon responded with a little over 15 minutes left on the clock.

A fine goal from substitute Harvey levelled the scores, thanks to a well-struck effort which flew into the right-hand corner.

With time running out, the Cherries continued to press and were duly rewarded for their efforts six minutes later.

Tilly won the ball in the centre of midfield and played it into Tape, who turned the Wycombe centre-back and smashed home for 2-1.

A dramatic second half was capped off with moments remaining, as Harvey managed to hit the bar before the referee’s whistle went.

Following the game, a delighted Davies spoke to afcb.co.uk about the performance.

“It was a difficult pitch,” he began.

“I’m really pleased with how the girls responded after going a goal down and we’ve got a really good team spirit about us.”

The Women are back in action this Sunday, as they host Milton Keynes City at Bisterne FC and look to keep their 100% record in 2018.
