AFC Bournemouth couldn’t overcome a strong Portsmouth side in their latest pre-season outing, losing 6-2 at the Blanchard Wells Stadium.

The hosts raced into a 3-0 lead and went into the break with the advantage but the Cherries came back fighting, as Jasmine Hughes and Terri Harvey netted just after half-time to reduce the deficit.

Nevertheless, with manager Steve Davies rotating his squad throughout the match and numerous players gaining invaluable gametime, a consistent Portsmouth side were able to press forward and secure the win with a further three goals.

Despite the defeat, Davies remained positive following the performance, which saw several under-16s step up to the first team.

“It’s all about getting them fit and keeping them fit at this stage of pre-season,” he said.

“I wanted to give all the girls that travelled some game time, which involved rotating positions.

“The game provided further opportunities for the team to gel, as we prepare for the start of the season."

Next up for AFC Bournemouth Women is Super League side Yeovil Town Ladies, before facing Barking College next week in the final pre-season test.
