AFC Bournemouth Women continued their unbeaten run in the league and moved into top spot after a 6-0 win over Southampton Women Reserves.

A Rosie Eden hat-trick, two goals from Chloe Tape and another from Emma Davis completed the rout, as the women made it two from two in the Southern Region Women’s Football League.

The game got off to a good start, with Southampton under pressure from the off.

Tape saw two early efforts come back off the bar, with Rosie Eden and Emma Davis also providing a threat from the wing.

However, on the half-hour mark, the Cherries made their dominance count, with Rosie Eden earning a penalty for their efforts.

Sian Tilly stepped up but saw her spot-kick well saved by Ella Clarke, before the rebound fell to Tape who slotted for her first of the afternoon.

Just 15 minutes later, and moments before the break, Eden also found herself on the scoresheet after pouncing onto Tape’s pass to slot beyond the keeper.

Following the break, Southampton pressed forward, with Tia Bramble looking to reduce the deficit for the visitors.

Yet the Cherries attack proved too strong and Steve Davies’ side had their third of the afternoon five minutes into the second half.

Davis’ curling corner proved too much for Clarke in goal and she couldn’t keep out the incoming ball, leaving Southampton a mountain to climb as the clock ticked down.

Despite Bramble forcing a good save from Cherries ‘keeper Kate Guthrie, the hosts continued to improve with the fourth goal the best of the bunch.

Eden needed just one touch before shooting to convert past Clarke, after the ball had travelled from Guthrie at the back without possession lost.

With the full-time whistle in sight, there was still time for Tape to grab her second of the afternoon, beating a host of Southampton defenders down the left, before firing into the back of the net.

It was then up to Eden to round off the three points, slotting home for her hat-trick with minutes remaining.

Following the match, a delighted Davies spoke to afcb.co.uk about the performance:

“It was really pleasing to see the girls play so well,” he commented.

“Everyone certainly played the part in what was a tough game against a good Southampton side.”

The women’s next game will see them travel to Fleet Town on Sunday, as they seek to continue their unbeaten league form.
