AFC Bournemouth Women suffered their first defeat of the year in a 3-0 loss to Southampton at Bisterne FC.

The visitors, who have won ten from ten in the FA Women’s Premier League South-West Division One, came away victorious and will progress to the next round of the Hampshire FA Cup.

The game began rather evenly, with both sides having chances in the opening 20 minutes of the tie.

Rosie Eden had the first opportunity for the Cherries, cutting in from the left and producing a good save from Millie Peak.

It was then Southampton who created a number of chances, with Phillipa Holden slotting home in the middle of the half.

Just before the break, it was then Emma Pinner on hand to double the visitors’ lead, taking advantage of a poor clearance to score beyond Kate Guthrie.

The second half saw the Cherries press forward, with good chances falling to Jade Hockey, Aimee-Rose Collier and Eden once again.

A strong performance from Peak in goal denied the Cherries, before Southampton added one more to their tally at the end of the game.

A well worked move on the left saw the ball crossed in for Sheree Bell-Jack, who finished strongly for 3-0.

Despite the defeat, Cherries manager Steve Davies remained upbeat about the performance.

“I thought we performed well against a very good side,” he began.

“We were missing a couple of players, but I was really pleased with performance.”
