U18s start season with U's Draw

The AFC Bournemouth under-18s got their league campaign under way with a 1-1 home draw with Oxford United.

A goal down at the break, the Cherries put in an improved second-half performance and equalised through Jake Scrimshaw as the side shared the spoils on opening day.

Following the game, youth team manager Alan Connell gave his verdict on his side's performance.

"Before the game we spoke about playing the game the way we wanted to - but Oxford were strong and stopped us from doing that. We struggled to move the ball how we'd like to and went a goal down quite early and were making too many unforced errors" he told afcb.co.uk.

"We changed things and sharpened up in the second half. We gathered momentum and started to create chances before equalising through a counter attack.

"Our goalkeeper Tom Parker-Trott distributed well and Jake Scrimshaw ran through to score.

"In the end a draw was probably a fair result, in the second half we were much better and that's pleasing but overall we were not entirely where we need to be."
